Communion Press
imprints
Communion Press publishes work under distinct imprints, each reflecting a particular editorial approach and relationship to the texts it brings into the world.
At present, Communion is the sole imprint of Communion Press. Over time, additional imprints may be established for other work.
COMMUNION
Communion is the primary imprint of Communion Press. Under this imprint, the press publishes thoughtfully prepared editions of works in the public domain by authors whose writing is deeply meaningful and still relevant. These works were chosen not only for their beauty, but for their enduring significance. They are works that have been misunderstood, dismissed, and allowed to fall out of circulation despite their vitality.
The name Communion reflects a belief about reading itself. At its best, reading fiction is a kind of connection: a communion between author and reader. It is not a passive act, nor a surrender of one consciousness to another. It is a shared act, in which the author gives themselves fully, the reader brings themselves fully, and something third is formed between them.
Books published under this imprint are prepared with the intention of supporting that connection. They are newly typeset and edited, with special care given to readability, fidelity, and the conditions that allow a reader to enter the work fully and without obstruction.
The Communion imprint begins with the novels of Elizabeth von Arnim, whose work exemplifies the qualities the press seeks to honor: generosity of vision, clarity without cruelty, emotional depth, and beauty that rewards close attention. Her writing gives voice to lives too often overlooked, and continues to meet readers with intelligence, empathy, and care.
Future editions under this imprint may include other authors and works in the public domain that invite the same kind of meaningful encounter.
